Janet Christine Weight was born January 1946 in the South LondonWomen’s Hospital. Her birth coincided with
the 100th anniversary of the News Chronicle, a major newspaper of
the time. Babies born on that day were given an inscribed silver egg cup. The
egg cup has been a talisman for Janet as she has moved through her life, and
will inspire the title of her autobiography (work in progress) 'Born with a
Silver Egg Cup'
Janet attended The Camp School in Kent during her primary years. An
idyllic school housed in army huts in the middle of bluebell woods. A school
where children grew their own vegetables, and in general had the sort of
freedoms that children can only dream about today.
She attended The Medway College of Arts in Rochester Kent, now The University of Creative Arts. In 1966 she went to the United
States for a two year visit and stayed for
28 years. During this period Janet raised her now adult children, Jarrod, and
Christie, while always continuing to paint. Returning to the UK in 1993 Janet settled in the beautiful town of Crickhowell in the Brecon Beacons National Park where she spent 12 very happy years. In November 2005 she moved to London – and now works in the UK,
and other parts of Europe.
At 3 years old Janet was shown her Aunt’s sketch book
and from that moment knew creativity and painting would be her life’s pursuit.
Since the beginning of her career in 1973 Janet has
exhibited widely, completed many corporate murals, given workshops, lectures
and painting demonstrations in many places.
